 BIO:  Dr. Jiang is Interim Director, Center for Intercultural and International Programs and Director of the Confucius Institute (CI) at Xavier University Louisiana. He received his B.A. in Archaeology from Beijing University in 1997, and Ph.D. in Chinese Art History from the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania in 2004. He was the Paul Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Gallery of Art and the Smithsonian Institution from 2004-2005. Subsequently he taught at Florida Atlantic University and Southern University New Orleans and was promoted to associate professor with tenure in spring 2012 before assuming the Directorship of the Confucius Institute at Xavier University of Louisiana. He was President of the New Orleans Chinese Association and President of the U.S. Southeast Chinese Language Association in 2017. As the SIO at Xavier, Dr. Jiang leads both domestic exchange and international education programs. He will focus on inspiring and mobilizing the whole campus to enhance the University international profile, such as increasing campus global awareness, broadening the internalization of curricula, and strengthening students’ international mobility. In the past 7 years, Dr. Jiang has led the Xavier CI to become the top Chinese learning center in Louisiana and the go-to platform on Chinese culture, history, and travel for local government agencies, civic groups, and non-profit organizations. The Institute won the 2016 global “CI of the Year” and the 2018 “Person of the Year” awards, and has made an impact of over 5 million dollars on regional economy. Dr. Jiang has earned numerous fellowships and awards in his prior study and working experience, including a major grant from the Louisiana Board of Regents in 2012, the “Distinguished Leadership Award” from Xavier President in 2017, and proclamations from Louisiana Lt. Governor, City of New Orleans Mayor, Jefferson Parish President and Council, and the Orleans Parish School Board.

 BIO:  Mrs. Karen Watson Lee is the Associate Director of the Center for Intercultural and International Programs at Xavier University of Louisiana. She has been employed at Xavier University of Louisiana for over 20 years. She previously served as Senior Evaluator in Xavier University’s Registrar’s Office. She ensures that the University is in compliance with the United States immigration policies and procedures involving F-1 and J-1and also advises students on studying abroad. She is was the Louisiana State Representative for NAFSA, involved in the NAFSA Trainer Corps and formerly a NAFSA Academy member for International Education.
