Mostly comprised of arid dessert plateaus in the east and highlands in the west, Jordan is located in the Middle East and Western Asia. This Arab country is surrounded by Syria to the north, Iraq to its northeast, Saudi Arabia to its east and south, and Israel to the west. As a result of its geography Jordan has a dry hot climate throughout most of the year, with rainfall in the winter months.
Known as the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, it is ruled by a constitutional monarchy. The government body resides in Amman, the capital. Jordan\'s King is the Chief of State, with a Prime Minister as the Head of Government. The King is considered the definitive authority in Jordan; nonetheless the parliament plays a vital role as well. The weak economy employs the Jordanian Dinar. Jordan is in the process of reforming the economy and to increase trade, which is still susceptible to external shocks and regional unrest.
The Jordanian culture is mostly influenced by the Arabic and Islamic world. With the countless ancient sites and untouched natural places in Jordan, the country thrives with tourism. The Jordanian cuisine is considered one of the finest of the region. Its Arabic style is prepared with many natural and healthy ingredients that have become tradition, stemming back many centuries. Arabic is the official language of Jordan. English is widely understood among most Jordanians, degrees vary upon educational levels and Demo graphical concentration. The music of Jordan can be distinguished from that of its neighboring countries like Syria and Saudi Arabia by its strong Bedouin influence. Rural zajal songs, with improvised poetry played with a rabab and reed pipe ensemble accompanying is popular. Many people from different regions of the world have come to settle in Jordan and they have long been assimilated in the society and added their richness to the society that has subsequently developed.
