Mozambique

Description

Mozambique is a country located in southeastern Africa bordered by the Indian Ocean to the east, Tanzania to the north, Malawi and Zambia to the northwest, Zimbabwe to the west and Swaziland and South Africa to the southwest. Mozambique, at 309,475 square miles is the world's 35h largest country. The land of Mozambique consists of coastal lowlands, uplands in the center, high plateaus in the northwest, and mountains in the west. The highest point is Monte Binga, at 2,436 meters located next to the border of Zimbabwe in the Chimanimani Transfrontier Park. The climate is tropical with warm weather year round.
 
The President of Mozambique is both head of state, head of government, and of a multi party system. The president is elected by popular vote for a fiver year term. The prime minister is appointed by the president. Executive power is exercised by the government and consists of a president, prime minister and council of Ministers. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the Assembly of the Republic. The judiciary includes a Supreme Court, and provincial, district, and municipal courts.
 
In Mozambique, the official and most widely spoken language of the nation is Portuguese. Bantu people who comprise 99% of the population speak several different languages, but 40 % of them speak Portuguese as well. In schools and business, the English language is spoken, and most educated Mozambicans speak this as their second or third language. Religions in Mozambique are divided fairly evenly between the people being Roman Catholic, adhering to Zionism, Muslims, and other non-Catholic Christians. The Roman-Catholic church has established twelve dioceses. The Muslims are present in the North of the country and organized into several brotherhoods.
